Overview & Legacy

• Established: 1958

• Legacy: The department was shaped and developed through the leadership of Dr. Meenakshi Solomon, who dedicated 30 years of service to maternal and women’s health at Padhar Hospital.

• Mission: Delivering comprehensive, high-quality, and cost-effective obstetrical and gynaecological healthcare to women across all socioeconomic strata in the district and surrounding regions.

Obstetric Services

As a tertiary care referral unit, the department provides 24/7 management for standard pregnancies as well as high-risk, critical, and emergency obstetric conditions.

• Daily Antenatal Care (ANC Clinic): Comprehensive routine prenatal monitoring, nutritional counseling, and maternal hygiene education during daily OPD hours.

• 24/7 Labour & Delivery Unit:

  • Fully equipped labour room with 2 delivery tables.

  • Round-the-clock coverage by trained medical officers, midwives, and support staff.

• Emergency & High-Risk Obstetric Care:

  • Routine management of complex conditions: Pre-eclampsia, Eclampsia, Antepartum Haemorrhage (APH), Postpartum Haemorrhage (PPH), Ectopic pregnancy, Uterine rupture, Molar pregnancy, and Multiple gestations.

• Operative & Instrumental Delivery:

  • Dedicated surgical suite with full-time obstetricians and anaesthetists for emergency/elective Cesarean sections and assisted/instrumental deliveries.

• Postnatal Care & Family Planning:

  • Postpartum recovery monitoring, contraception counseling, Intrauterine Contraceptive Device (IUCD / Copper-T) insertions, and permanent sterilization (Tubectomy).

• Government Empanelment (JSY):

  • Empanelled under the Madhya Pradesh State Government’s Janani Sahayogi Yojana (JSY), enabling eligible Below Poverty Line (BPL) cardholders to receive free-of-cost delivery services (both vaginal and Cesarean births).

Gynaecological Services

1. General Gynaecology & OPD

• Comprehensive evaluation and treatment for menstrual disorders, abnormal uterine bleeding (puberty menorrhagia), reproductive tract infections, benign pelvic masses, and genital malignancies.

2. Infertility Clinic (Couples Care)

• Evaluation and management protocols for both female and male partners:

  • Female Diagnostics & Interventions: Diagnostic Hystero-laparoscopy (for tubal patency), Laparoscopic Ovarian Drilling, Hysterosalpingography (HSG), Sonosalpingography (SSG), Ovulation induction, and Serial Follicular Ultrasound Monitoring.

  • Male Diagnostics: Semen analysis and hormonal workups.

3. Comprehensive Surgical Procedures

• Hysterectomy Portfolio:

  • Total Laparoscopic Hysterectomy (TLH)

  • Non-Descent Vaginal Hysterectomy (NDVH)

  • Total Abdominal Hysterectomy (TAH)

  • Vaginal Hysterectomy with Pelvic Floor Repair (PFR)

  • Radical Hysterectomy (for malignancies) & Emergency Obstetric Hysterectomy

• Minimally Invasive & Reconstructive Surgeries: Laparoscopic ovarian cystectomy, fallopian tube recanalization, vaginoplasty, and correction of congenital anomalies (e.g., imperforate hymen).

• Gynaecologic Oncology: Staging laparotomy and debulking procedures for ovarian and other pelvic cancers, supported by financial aid under state welfare programs (e.g., RBS scheme) for underprivileged patients.

4. Cervical Cancer Screening & Outreach

• Community-based rural screening utilizing Visual Inspection with Acetic Acid (VIA) and Visual Inspection with Lugol’s Iodine (VILI) conducted by trained healthcare workers.

• Suspected/positive screening cases are escalated directly to the hospital for formal Colposcopic evaluation and targeted biopsy.
