Overview

The Paediatric Department at Padhar Hospital is a state-of-the-art regional referral center serving children across a 200 km radius. It provides comprehensive inpatient, intensive, nutritional, and outpatient care for local children as well as critical referrals from surrounding healthcare facilities.

Key Inpatient & Specialized Units

1. General Paediatric Inpatient Unit ("Pink Ward")

• Capacity: 20 general inpatient beds + 3 dedicated emergency beds.

• Infrastructure: Equipped with child-friendly centralized suction and oxygen supply systems.

• Scope of Care:

  • Comprehensive medical management for acute and chronic childhood illnesses.

  • Post-operative and rehabilitative care for children with cleft lip/palate, general surgical conditions, and orthopaedic issues.

  • Inpatient oncology support for paediatric patients undergoing chemotherapy.

  • Critical care support: Paediatric patients requiring mechanical ventilation are managed in coordination with the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

2. Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

• Capacity & Level: 12-bedded Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

• Clinical Focus: Specialized care for premature neonates, low-birth-weight infants, and critically ill newborns.

• Advanced Equipment:

  • Mechanical ventilators & Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) units

  • Double surface phototherapy machines

  • Radiant warmers & precision infusion pumps

  • Central oxygen and suction lines

  • Bedside portable X-ray and Ultrasonography (USG) imaging

3. Nutritional Rehabilitation Centre (NRC)

• Background: Established on November 15, 2008, in partnership with UNICEF and the Government of India.

• Target Group: Children suffering from severe acute malnutrition (SAM / Grade 3 & Grade 4 malnutrition).

• Protocol & Services:

  • 14-day (2-week) inpatient therapeutic nutritional rehabilitation following standardized WHO guidelines.

  • Free diagnostics, therapeutic feeding, and essential medications.

  • Maternal Support & Empowerment: Wage-loss compensation provided to accompanying mothers alongside structured daily training on child nutrition, hygiene, and growth monitoring.

Perinatal & Delivery Services

• High-Risk Delivery Attendance: Paediatric consultants are physically present at all Cesarean sections and high-risk vaginal deliveries to ensure immediate, skilled neonatal resuscitation and stabilization.

Outpatient & Community Health Initiatives

• Daily Outpatient Department (OPD): Routine consultations, developmental assessments, and sick-child visits.

• Immunization Services: Complete coverage of routine National Immunization Schedule vaccines along with recommended newer vaccines.

• School & Community Health Camps: Regular health check-ups and medical screening camps conducted in collaboration with partner organizations like World Vision.

• Health Education: Mass community health broadcasts via All India Radio to raise public awareness about common childhood illnesses, preventive healthcare, and hygiene.
